The scope of this anthology encompasses themes developed at a biennial conference series on Cultural Attitudes towards Technology and Communication (CATaC), the inaugural conference of which was held in 1998 in London; the two organizers of the conference provide the foreword. Nineteen contributions are arranged in sections on theory, constructing identities, negotiating community, and engaging politics. Discussion includes experiences in China, India, Korea, Portugal, Jamaica, Chile, Russia, Austria, and the US, among other countries--with regard to mobile phones, YouTube, students’ online identities, texting, and e-learning, among other topics.
