Fitzpatrick, the director of graduate counseling programs, and Costantini who teaches graduate students (both at Manhattan College) present a complete counseling curriculum to help students
plan and achieve college and career goals. Section 1 overviews current challenges facing educators and high school counselors. Section 2 presents a curriculum for high school counselors to
deliver to students in grades 9-12. Each curriculum chapter begins with a 'memo' to the counselor and then addresses the student directly; counselors can use this material as the basis for
lectures or handouts. Each curriculum chapter also contains exercises and activities for students. Coverage encompasses standardized testing, researching colleges, and writing personal
statement essays. Section 3 gives advice to counselors about practical issues such as working with parents and advising students with learning disabilities. The book offers 15 pages of
appendices on military academies, data set terms used in the admissions and financial aid process, and helpful websites. The CD-ROM contains all of the summary tables, charts, and student
exercises from the book. Annotation 穢2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
