This work for art students and others describes the vision and some of the results of the Odyssey Works project, a group of artists that creates a transformative experience of time-based art,
in multiple media, for one person at a time over a period of days or even months. Much of the book centers on the four-month Odyssey of American novelist Rick Moody, which included a surprise
trip to an empty field in Canada and a story written for him by writer Amy Hempel; the book includes Hempel’s story, an interview with Moody, and writing by Moody. The book also contains six
proposals for creating artwork based on empathy and deep involvement with the audience. The book is illustrated with color photos and art throughout, some full page. Also included are
exercises, activities, and a timeline. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
