This collection holds 42 audition pieces, all written by playwrights who identify as Latino. It is intended for practical use. For each playwright, editor Espinosa has provided, in addition to
a monologue, a short biography that includes their cultural background and career, a list of the writer’s plays, and advice for performing that writer’s monologue. Because of its orientation
from within Latino culture, the characters are far from the stereotypical maids, gardeners or landscapers. For example, there is a Puerto Rican wrestler, a college student who is an
undocumented immigrant, a wacky infomercial host, an expectant mother who might give up her baby, a Cuban boxer, and a wealthy investment banker. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR
