Departing from previous studies of Irish women architects, Thorpe focuses on locating and analyzing architectural sketches made by women. A few of the drawings aim to be professional in style,
she says, but most are modest and amateur in nature, some sketches on mere scraps of paper that can nonetheless contribute to constructing the broader picture. She contends that a building that
is no longer standing can still remain relevant to the question of how and why women designed and constructed them, and in some cases prints and photographs have proved valuable records of
their achievements. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation ©2014 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
