A finely produced leathercraft book for the serious enthusiast, this text was produced by an artist in the textiles and design field who is also a technical expert on working with leather. As a
coffee-table book it can be enjoyed by readers who like interior design and women’s accessories, or who are interested in the world history and techniques of using leather as a material (the
first section of the book deals expertly with this topic). But the book is mainly designed as a guide for crafters. It offers a helpful illustrated section on tools, and another on basic
techniques; combined with a good materials guide and glossary of leather types, this allows the book to be helpful to crafters using leather for any purpose. The second half of the book is
clear instructions and patterns for specific leatherwork projects, from an aviator helmet to t-shirts to moccasins, cellphone cases, book covers, bags (women’s and unisex), boxes, baskets,
simple furniture, lamps, and leather jewelry. The design aesthetic is clean and modern, many designs are unisex, and few require advanced skills or special equipment other than a leather sewing
machine. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
