內容簡介

Constantin Stanislavsky was probably the most influential figure in theatrical acting in the 20th century, and strongly influenced American film as well. This book by a major scholar of Russian theatre combines letters from the Moscow Archives and the definitive Russian edition of Stanislavsky’s letters to create a biography of Stanislavsky in the form of collected letters. The earliest one is at the age of 11; the latest are messages written shortly before his death. The letters are annotated by the editor/translator; black and white photographs are also provided. The letters cover personal life, tourism, his life as a touring actor in the era, a favored subject of the Tsar and a harried refugee from the Bolsheviks. They also cover his work on major theatrical productions in English, and the steps that led to the writing and publication of his own memoir and book on acting. The book is the fullest edition of Stanislavsky’s letters in any language other than Russian. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
