In this ethnographic study of one secondary school in Finland, Kupiainen (theory of visual culture, Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Finland) looks at young people’s
creative media production in its own right and gives ideas on how teachers can encourage students to bring their outside creative practices into the classroom. Classroom discussions, the voices
of students, b&w classroom photos, and photos of students’ work highlight the relationship between informal and formal learning as manifested in student projects in photography, video, fan
fiction, blogging, and online role playing games. The audience for the book includes teachers, educators, scholars, and graduate students in education, new literacies, media and communication,
art education, and youth studies. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
