This work gathers the late-19th-century letters from Henry Northrup Castle to American philosopher George Herbert Mead, who was Castle’s friend at Oberlin College and later his brother-in-law.
Their letters shed light on the intellectual and philosophical currents of the period, and the economic and cultural forces that shaped them. After Henry Northrup Castle’s accidental death, the
letters were collected and edited by George Herbert Mead and his wife Helen Castle Mead. This book is a facsimile of the original text of 1902. This edition contains an in-depth introduction by
Alfred L. Castle, the executive director of the Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation in Hawaii. There is also a brief foreword by the current president of Oberlin College. Annotation ©2013 Book
