Allen (social work, U. College Dublin, Ireland) explains the use of narrative therapy by counselors, social workers, and others working with women who are experiencing domestic violence, and
shows how the experiences of these women--and the meaning of these experiences--can inform practice. Using research findings from 19 qualitative interviews with 10 women who left an abusive
relationship, she discusses the importance of concepts of identity, resistance, and meaning making as they leave the relationship, and how they inform a narrative counseling approach. She also
