Grief and Deal (social work, U. of Maryland) surveyed hundreds of couples, and former members of couples, about their relationships with other couples. They describe three types of
friendship-making: seekers for the extroverts, nesters for the introverts, and keepers for those in the middle. They breakdown relationships by age, race and class. They summarize the kind of
activities they share and emotional bonds they make, how friendships are made and broken, how individuals interact and what happens when a couple breaks up. They focus on heterosexual couples
and say that they decided to do this after consulting with homosexuals who told them that couple-friendships were different in that community due to intense friendship networks. Annotation
