Internet Dating

This volume presents and evaluates key social theories and a global range of empirical studies on internet dating, considering whether internet dating is driven by commercial or consumerist logic or by more technical or reflexive approaches to finding sexual or love partners. It pays particular attention to the possibilities of internet dating for different genders, sexualities, and cultures, seeking to understand internet dating in a way that does not just replicate the logic of heternormative narratives of romance, but considers the divergences from this narrative as non-heterosexual and heterosexual daters experience pleasure in unexpected places, find or fail to find what they are looking for, connect or fail to connect with those they contact or meet, or return to internet dating after a relationship ends or in search of more sexual contacts.
