The "work-force" approach that seeks to quickly move people into unsubsidized employment came out of the welfare reform legislation passed in 1996. Yet there has been little in-depth research
into the approaches that have been most successful in moving toward this goal. Feldman (Kennedy School of Government, Harvard U.) here uses qualitative and quantitative methods to compare the
results of over 14,000 participants enrolled in twenty six nonprofit and for-profit programs in New York City. The volume includes appendixes outlining the methodology and regression results of
the study, along with chapter endnotes providing further details. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
