Augmenting the voluminous literature on parental bereavement, psychologists Buckle (Memorial U. of Newfoundland) and Fleming (York U., Toronto) explore the daunting responsibility mothers and
fathers face parenting their surviving--and also grieving--children. In particular, they address the dilemma of having to stop parenting the dead child while continueing to parent the
survivors. They apply established grounded theory procedures to over 800 pages of transcript from interviews with five mothers and five fathers, and incorporate vignettes and case studies from
