This classroom text introduces written and oral Modern Standard Arabic to the English-language adult learner with no prior knowledge of the language and is intended to bring the students'
abilities from "novice low" to "novice high." The emphasis is on everyday vocabulary and on the most basic situations of daily life: meeting and greeting people, engaging in limited
conversations, giving and understanding directions, ability to understand basic travel information (e.g. train timetables and how to book tickets), shopping and understanding bills, weather
information, basic personal and family information, and Arab culture. The material is presented in ten modules, each of which introduces new vocabulary and new grammatical forms and includes
practice examples. Included with the text are an audio CD for listening exercises and a DVD with instruction on Arabic alphabet writing. Language drills are available on an accompanying
