This work collects short excerpts of writings of (primarily European) travelers' experiences of the deserts of Egypt. Most of the writings date from the 18th and 19th centuries, but a few date
back to centuries earlier. Although the excerpts are quite brief, usually no more than a paragraph or two, this allows for an inclusion of a greater multitude of voices, which provides perhaps
a broader view of desert experiences. The writings are presented in sections titled: the Deserts of the Imagination and Reality, the Western 'Libyan' Desert, the Eastern Desert and Sinai
Peninsula, Preparations for the Journey, Starting Out, the Desert Day, the Desert Night, Nature in the Desert, Experiences of the Desert, the Threats of the Desert, the People of the Desert,
and the Return to the World. Distributed in the US by International Publishers Marketing (IPM). Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
