Based on LeVay and Baldwin's Human Sexuality, this shorter text, with a new co-author, sociologist John Baldwin, reduces the amount of biological detail to help less prepared students. The text
offers an evidence-based approach, keeps relationship "advice" to a minimum, and refers to original journal articles whenever possible. Boxes are organized on seven themes: biology of sex,
cultural diversity, research, sexual health, sex in history, personal points of view, and society, values, and the law. Features color photos, anatomical illustrations, and drawings on every
page. Tasteful illustrations, such as drawings of sexual positions, alternate with occasionally provocative and semi-graphic photos, especially in the chapters on atypical sexuality and sex as
a commodity. LeVay has taught at Harvard, the University of California-San Diego, and Stanford University. Janice Baldwin and John Baldwin both teach sociology at the University of
California-Santa Barbara. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
