This is the seventh volume of the University Press of Florida's series collecting the writings of Laurence Sterne (1713-1768), the Irish-born English novelist and clergyman best known for The
Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, and A Sentimental Journey Through France. Together with the eighth volume it collects and annotates Sterne's surviving correspondence, including
some 20 letters discovered since the last scholarly collection of Sterne's correspondence was published in 1935 by Lewis Perry Curtis. The annotations, presented in the form of end notes
following each letter, identify references within the letters to people, places, and the writings of Sterne and others, and elucidate a host of other matters that may not be clear to the
contemporary reader. Within the annotations, the editors make clear their differences and agreements with previous Sterne scholars, perhaps most often Curtis. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc.,
