Over 2000 years ago, according to legend, a shipwreck landed one of the lost tribes of Israel on the Konkon coast of India. Bound together by a common faith in an unfamiliar land, this group
became known as the Bene Israel Jews of India.
After religious riots rock Ahmedabad in 2002, a contingent of the group's descendents unite in the Shalom India Housing Society apartment complex, where they are watched over by the spirit of
the wine-loving Prophet Elijah. Whether they're partying at costume competitions, attending early-morning meetings of the Laughing Club, or falling in love with the forbidden Christian
violinist in Block B, they live their lives with playfulness, passion, wit, and a touch of heartbreak.
