This handbook was developed to answer two basic questions: What does one need to know about beginning a career as a researcher? What skills are especially critical for researchers to develop
the knowledge base in the field? This volume is organized around the following topic areas, each of which reflect critical areas of knowledge base and skills: (1) using theoretical models and
frameworks in data and analysis, (2) designing research, (3) securing resources for research, (4) managing and implementing research in clinical settings, (5) disseminating research findings,
(6) developing strategies to integrate research and practice, (7) integrating research and policy. The chapters are authored by a wide range of expert researchers whose work reflects key
content areas as well as cutting-edge research. This volume emphasizes a practical, skill-based perspective, that considers the problems that are faced by researchers executing various tasks,
uses illustrations from ongoing research and includes recommendations for training researchers in pediatric and clinical child psychology.
