Editor and contributor Eaton (philosophy, U. of Illinois at Chicago) and five other philosophers of film present six essays exploring the questions of ethics, gender, and other problems raised
in Spanish director Pedro Almod籀var's 2002 film Talk to Her. The visually masterful story of two men who meet because the women they love have each fallen into a coma explores the motivations,
both sinister and sincere, behind behaviors that push ethical extremes. The essays discuss the following topics: the relationship between art and morality and the problem of "immoralism"; moral
injury and its role in the way we form moral judgements; the nature of dialogue, sexual objectification, and what "listening to" means in the context of gender; and Almodovar's use of allusion
and the unmasking of appearances to explore hidden themes in human nature. Brief introductions to the author and the film are provided. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
