This guide to historically significant sites related to the Cherokee Nation received an Award of Merit from the Tennessee Historical Commission in 1996. This new edition covers 190 Cherokee
sites in five southeastern states: Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, as well as in border areas of Kentucky and Virginia. Following a historical overview, the
remainder of the book divides the Cherokee's eastern homelands into 19 geographic areas, and describes battle and treaty sites, mission schools, and internment camps. For each site, there is
historical background and updated directions, contacts, and information on hours of operation. Most entries are illustrated with a b&w photo, taken by the author. This edition covers more
than a dozen new sites. Rozema is the author of two other books on the Cherokee people. Annotation 穢2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
