In 1942-43, the Solomon Islands were at the center of the conflict between U.S./Allied forces and the Japanese as they fought for mastery of the Pacific. This text tells the story of the Coastwatchers--daring individuals who operated behind Japanese lines for the purpose of gathering critical intelligence and helping downed pilots. Lord based his narrative on information gathered through interviews with participants as well as on archival and field research.
