This two-volume corpus presents most of Icelandic skaldic poetry of Christian devotional content that was composed in the 12th-15th centuries--28 poems in all. (The Elder Edda and related poems
will appear in another volume.) Each of the poems appears in a critical edition, with English translation and extensive notes. The notes list manuscript variants, previous editions, and
questions related to the poem's phonology, metre, lexicography, and interpretation. The result is a scholarly and thorough presentation that will be invaluable to students and scholars of Old
Norse as well as to those in related fields, including history, religion, and archaeology. The 16 contributors responsible for the poems' presentation are with universities in Denmark, Iceland,
the U.K., the U.S., Australia, Canada, and Germany. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation 穢2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
