Walker-Kuhne (marketing the arts, Brooklyn College, Columbia U., and New York U.) was inspired to write this book beginning in 1993 when she began to work for The Public Theater in New York
City. As a guide for producers, presenters, arts administrators and educators, the book details her experiences there as well as at the Dance Theater of Harlem and other organizations,
specifically how she increased the amount of multicultural audiences at performing arts events. Details about hiring a staff, institutional vision, programming, and specific tools are outlined,
as well as the history of audience development. She focuses on how she developed audiences for Bring in `Da Noise, Bring in `Da Funk and Harlem Song and includes a chapter on the museum field.
Walker-Kuhne also speaks and teaches workshops and seminars internationally. There is no index. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
