PREFACE
LIAN HUO WU is President of Empire Investment, Inc, an established brokerage firm, which is a member of NASD and SPIC. This is an up-to-date edition of a previous book, which also was written
to provide Chinese investors with an essential investment information.
Mr. WU as formerly associated with my firm as Vice President of Thomson McKinnon Securities Inc. which is one of the leading investment firms holding memberships in New York Stock Exchange
and other securities and commodities trading centers in the United States. Mr. Wu has been in America for more than 20 years and has a Master Degree in Business Administration from Seton Hall
University. He has had various experience in Wall Street and has been a stockbroker since 1969. I regard him as a highly competent person.
The purpose of this book is to familiarize Chinese speaking people, particularly those residing in the United States, with the American securities markets. The book is designed to be
entertaining while it instructs. Of course it cannot cover all aspects of the investment business so it should be regarded as a practical introduction in investing rather than a complete
manual.
We have in America what might be called a people’s capitalism. It is estimated that over 47,000,000 Americans own common stocks directly and that millions more have an indirect interest in
American shares through their pension funds or insurance policies. In no other country in the world is the ownership of property distributed over such a high percentage of the population.
Mr. Wu should be praised for writing this book and giving his years of knowledge and experience on Wall Street to the Chinese community. He is able to accomplish this due to the fact that he
is Chinese and understands their investments philosophy. I am honored to have had the opportunity to write this Preface.
