編者的話

Some would have it that ugly is very unattractive or unpleasant to look at. Others says that the term is a disagreeable cliche. Then there were those of us who believe that trying not to be ugly is our only safeguard against the irreversible stagnation of environmental revolution whereby people sets a certain bar or standard on what they called Ugly.

At the opposite end of this shallow spectrum, there is Pretty, so call in search of perfection, which have been dominating the world for quite some time. With such overwhelming force throughout the years, apparently it has already been hard to keep sight of what we were even left to be aspire of. We can’t possible be expected to aspire to the grim, what’s more awful than it to be said that it’s the reality?

Let’s at least agree on one thing. Being just pretty will never push our boundaries, however perfect it is, at least for now, it isn’t anymore. In the process of exploring, the TV screen, social medias and to a certain extend those industries that are made of dreams, or so we at least believed in, the fashion industry. From perfection to the stage of trying to be different, then quirkiness, it has slowly came to a point whereby even the ugly that we used to believe to be unpleasant before wasn’t quite enough now. How else could one explain items that were used to be just necessity, to keep warm have turned into items set on high prices and margins, designed to just gain attention, or high bars on the numbers for sales. More than anything, a sign which democracy has spoken. The extreme worship of anything in one way or another can lead us into blindness, like parrots. Who is there to be given the power on setting up such bars?

From what we have chosen to name it as, be it the norm, be it the beauty of all, or the ugly duckling we thought they might be, in such a time of disruption and contrary, a whole new balance should be found within the two polar opposites, in between these there lies a point where forces may actually be complementary, while both ends meet where no one should be judged nor educated to be on either one side or the other, balance is the key of what we could name this equality as, The Ugly Pretty.

We’re looking towards imperfections. An imperfection where a timeless compilation of so call beautiful things can easily integrate into what we define “Ugly Pretty”.
