The fundamental purpose of the landscape design theory that Murphy presents here is to provide the understanding required to resolve issues that clients bring to landscape architects. He takes
an ecological approach, examining the people to be designed for in relation to the environments they inhabit and how designs might be crafted to facilitate a mutually sustaining relationship
between people and land. Looking in turn at substantive theory and procedural theory, he explores such topics as the biophysical landscape, design form, problem definition, and design
collaboration. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
