Cash is a member of an international building pathologist task group formed in 1986 by the International Council for Building Research Studies and Documentation, to study failure in buildings and methods of failure reduction. His text covers an overview of the U.S. roofing industry in 2001; characteristics of the most frequently used roofing systems, waterproofing materials, decks, and thermal insulations; definitions of ＂failure＂ and its causes; 41 case studies of roofing failure; and recommendations to owners, roofing system specifiers, general and specialty contractors, and roofing researchers on methods to avoid roofing problems.
