Set during the 1970s in smog-ridden Los Angeles, The Nice Guys is the story about a washed-up Los Angeles private investigator (Ryan Gosling) who reluctantly partners with a former fighter (Russell Crowe) to look into the apparent suicide of a fading adult film star. In classic Shane Black fashion, the film is at its heart a buddy movie; in spite of its dark subject matter, the story comes with tremendous wit and humor.
