Recent changes in men’s professional sports combined with major transformations in women’s leisure lives have prompted rising numbers of women to enter the formerly male preserve of the sports stadium. This book explores this recent gendered shift in sports spectatorship, considering women’s experiences in the contemporary period. Although there is a large body of research on sports fandom, the experiences of female fans have been largely marginalized in existing research. This book is a groundbreaking contribution to the small, but growing area of research on female sports fans.
