US highway Route 66, which stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles, was fully paved by 1937, says Ross, and the last stretch was decertified in 1985. He presents modern and historical photographs
of bridges that the highway crossed, and in some cases, still carry traffic. He begins with what he does and does not consider a bridge, the different types of bridges, and maps. Then following
