This book presents a poem that gives a fictional account of the events of the Second Carib War fought in the late 18th century between Great Britain and the Garifuna, who were then known as the
Black Caribs of St. Vincent and who were aided in the war by the Revolutionary French forces. The poem was written in the years after the conflict by priest Horatio Nelson Huggins, who drew on
official reports as well as eyewitness reports and local legends. The book’s introduction discusses the discovery of manuscript, overviews the life of Huggins, and gives background on the
history of St. Vincent and the publication history of the poem. Characters in the poem and their roles are also listed. The book is distributed by Longleaf Services, Inc. Annotation ©2016
