Citing the significance of body image among adolescents, Ricciardelli and Yager name four main elements to body image: perceptual, affective, cognitive and behavioral. They present a
comprehensive overview of the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors relating to the development of body image and include remedies for dissatisfaction. They find that while those
with a positive body image accept and value their bodies in a functional sense rather than what they look like and have healthy attitudes toward food and eating, those with body image concerns
place an undue importance on appearance, weight, size or shape. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
