Hot Music, Ragmentation, and the Bluing of American Literature is primarily concerned with ragtime, blues, and jazz music of the 1920s, during the “Jazz Age.” Its premise is that the foundation
of contemporary American literature is heavily influenced by music from this period of time. It focuses on the three major elements of African American “hot music” (a term that captures the
overlapping nature of the genres of African American music during the 1920). The intent of the text is to focus on the blues tradition, while appreciating the overlapping nature of the three
genres in making relevant musical, social, political, and aesthetic points. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
