The text is a collection of nineteen scholarly studies discussing color printing in pre-1700 Europe. It is divided into five parts, each dedicated to a general theme or area. Individual chapter
within these parts include Colour Stamping in the Late Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries: Technical Sources and Workshop Practice, Materials and Techniques for Early Colour Printing, Hendrick
Goltzius’s Chiaroscuro Woodcuts Revisited, and Colourful Topography: A Short-Lived Practice in Amsterdam Print Publishing around 1700. The text offers a great many color illustrations of the
printwork as well as detailed close-ups. Ink and pigment use are discussed and charted. A chronology of printmaking is included in an appendix. The text will be of interest to the print or art
historian. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
