Based on the author’s interviews with 50 theatre professionals from Europe, Australia, and North America, this guide identifies three areas of dramaturgical practice in contemporary theatre:
institutional dramaturgy, production dramaturgy, and dance dramaturgy. Trencsényi, an author and dramaturg in London, employs case studies of theatre companies, along with textual analysis,
evidence, and theatre and performance theories, to illustrate the methodology of each practice, and includes theoretical and historical background. She discusses the work of professionals based
at an organization, the formation of national theatres, the work of three dramaturgs at these theatres, the curatorial role of institutional dramaturgs, and their role when working on a play in
translation and in new drama development; the role of the production dramaturg when working on a devised production; and the history of dance dramaturgy and methods at different stages of the
process. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
