Editors Eichengreen and Kawai present readers with a collection of academic essays and articles investigating the arguable rise to prominence of the Chinese renminbi as the next global currency
following the global financial meltdown of 2008. The editors have organized the eleven contributions that make up the main body of their text in four parts devoted to the context of their
argument, the implications of renminbi’s rise to prominence, the process by which it is occurring, and the view from the People’s Republic of China. Barry Eichengreen is a faculty member of the
