Gender Terrains in African Cinema

Part of the African Humanities Series, this text explores gender relations in African films. Although African filmmakers address a variety of social issues, Dipio focuses on gender relations, paying specific attention to the relationship between female children, young women and elderly women and their male counterparts. Films covered range from Vieyra’s Afrique sur Seine to Sycholt’s Themba: A Boy Called Hope. Also covered are the differences between African feminism and Western feminism.
