Broz primarily examines prefixed verbs or preverbs expressing aspect in the Old and Middle English periods, but also looks at post-verbal particles in subsequent periods of English. He
considers the manner in which various Old English prefixes such as a- and ge-, which are no longer productive, were used in the past to express aspect when attached to verbs, for example
astreccan and gegladian, a function performed by post-verbal particles in Present-Day English equivalents stretch out and cheer up. His topics are aspects of aspects; previous studies of
prefixed verbs and phrasal verbs; theoretical foundations and methodology; and analyses of the preverbs a-, ge-, and for-. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
