Wallis chronicles the life and times of Frank Phillips (1873-1950), oil tycoon and founder of Phillips Petroleum--from farm boy to head of a ＄625 million corporation with more than 18,000
employees. Described by his grandson as “a flamboyant individual cast in the mold of the nineteenth-century entrepreneurs but with an eye toward the future,” his great love was oil according to
his wife and mistress. There are five chapters: beginnings, 1873-1903; the Osage, 1903-1917; oil boom, 1917-1927; “66”, 1927-1939; Uncle Frank, 1939-1950. Illustrations complement the text.
