Editors Chou, Yu, and Chiang present students, and instructors with a collection of excerpts from contemporary Chinese short fiction that is meant to work as an advanced textbook in Chinese
language instruction. The twelve stories selected for inclusion by the editors include work by Yu Hua, Gao Xingjian, Wang Anyi and a wide variety of other contemporary Chinese authors whose
work has appeared in a variety of journals and magazines. Chih-p’ing Chou and Joanne Chiang are faculty members of Princeton University, New Jersey. Liping Yu is a faculty member of the
