Federico Grisone’s Gli ordini di cavalcare, published in 1550, is here translated from the Italian into English for the first time (other than an abbreviated version in English that was
published about the same time as the original). The extensive introduction describes and relates the provenance of the 1550 edition housed at the National Sporting Library & Museum in
Middleburg, Virginia, from which this translation was prepared; the intro also gives a chronology of Italian editions and translations into other languages, and discusses the methodology used
for this translation. The work itself is a detailed exposition on dressage theory and practice. Published by the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (ACMRS). Annotation ©2014
