From a journey to St. Brigid’s Shrine to a walk along St. Declan’s Road, this autobiographical travelogue offers entries by MacDonald as he travelled along 11 different sacred Catholic trails.
For any believer contemplating a trip to Ireland this could be a useful resource. MacDonald states early on that he is a struggling "a-la-carte Catholic," a term used critically in Ireland by
more steadfast religionists. This, along with a healthy dose of literary and historical references, makes the book interesting to a wider audience. Yet despite colorful accounts of stops for
pints in pleasant pubs, MacDonald is serious in his own way, and ultimately looking to deepen his faith in the religion is which he was raised. No index is provided. Distributed in the US by
