托爾金（J. R. R. Tolkien）

　　英國文學家，生於1892年1月3日，1915年牛津大學畢業，專研盎格魯撒克遜（Anglo-Saxon）歷史和語言。1925年回牛津大學擔任教授，時年33歲，是牛津大學有史以來最年輕的教授。同時，他也展開一系列神話故事的創作。最膾炙人口的有《哈比人》（The Hobbit or There and Back Again）、和《魔戒》（The Lord of the Rings）這兩部震碩古今的奇幻小說。此兩部鉅作被譽為近代所有奇幻作品的鼻祖，影響深遠。

　　托爾金於1973年9月2日在牛津逝世，但他的作品並不因此而銷聲匿跡，反而繼續傳播世界各地。至今全球已暢銷一億餘冊。《魔戒》在全球許多票選活動中都被選為二十世紀之書、AMAZON網路書店票選為兩千年以來最重要的書籍。
