This collection reprints 36 articles previously published in American Economic Review, Economic Record, Journal of International Economics, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and other scholarly
periodicals. The first four papers were published between 1959 and 1963 while the remaining papers have been published since the year 2000. One set of papers extends the frontiers of new open
economy macroeconomics while several empirical papers extend fundamental monetary research. Recent studies from the currency unification literature examine the real and monetary effects of
currency unions, demonstrate a decline in price dispersion across Europe, and view optimal currency criteria as endogenous. Other topics include commodity currencies, terms of trade and
exchange rate regimes in developing countries, oil price fluctuations and U.S. dollar exchange rates, and the effect of fixed exchange rates on monetary policy. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc.,
