Hirano (English, U. of Kitakyushu, Japan) explores the consequences of frequent interaction between native speakers of different varieties of English in a country where English is not the
primary language but is used as a medium of international communications. She discusses English education and the anglophone community in Japan, theoretical background and previous research,
hypotheses and research questions, linguistic variables, methodology, results, and interpreting results. The study is her revised dissertation for a 2011 PhD in linguistics and language at the
