Alford, Johnson, and Morris present readers with an account of the discovery and subsequent plundering of the paintings, precious jewels, and other art objects amassed by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring by US army units at the end of World War II. The text follows the final campaigns of the 101st Airborne Division and the 1269th Engineer Combat Battalion, as they converged on Hitler’s secret hideaway and Göring’s stolen art collection. The text also includes chapters devoted to the making of reparations, war trophies, and the return of much of the plundered art. Kenneth D. Alford is an historical consultant and author in the US Thomas M. Johnson is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and the author of several books on edged weapons.
