The text is in columns, side-by-side English and Dutch, and the book is based on research carried out under grants from several government and private organizations involved with planning and
architecture in the Netherlands. What the book describes, promotes, and demonstrates in case studies is an impetus and inspiration for planning that grabs hold of "strong stories"--in place of
rigid, predefined procedural paths. The three editors have diverse backgrounds, specialties, and affiliations: Maarten Hajer (public policy, and urban and spatial planning, U. of Amsterdam),
Jantine Grijzen (landscape, environmental issues, & public policy--at a private company), and Susan van ’t Klooster (climate change adaptation and the role of knowledge and uncertainty in
policy, VU University Institute for Environmental Studies. They are joined by three contributors who bring expertise in architecture and the arts. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
