In 1943, the Japanese, bowing to Nazi pressure, force 20,000 Jewish refugees, including Dr. Franz Adler and his wife, Sunny, to relocate to a one-square-kilometer 'Shanghai Ghetto' where, despite the often-times subhuman conditions, the Jewish culture thrived.
